Confronting Power

It is with great sadness that we at Goodman Gallery note the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. We stand in solidarity with the protestors fighting for justice and social change in the US. This systemic violence exists in South Africa too. It is with deep sorrow and outrage that we note the killing of 12 Black men by South Africa’s National Defence Force.

During this painful time, Goodman Gallery has put together a reading list, made up of texts suggested by gallery artists and members of our community. The list functions as a still space where reflection on this tragic time, and the structures of power which have caused it, can take place. The aim is for the texts to provide solace, education and perhaps guidance. The reading room is accumulative and texts will be added to it continuously.
